CDC Projects

How can Van Alstyne Community Development help local businesses?

Funding is available to businesses for façade & infrastructure improvement. Here are some of our completed projects:

Tourism:

  • Funded improvements inside and out for historic Interurban railcar
  • Funded signage for “Visit Historic Downtown Van Alstyne” on US 75
  • Sponsor of Van Alstyne Chamber of Commerce events, including Music in the Park and the annual Fall der All downtown celebration
  • Complete sponsorship of the city’s annual ChristmasTown celebration
  • Billboards advertising downtown Van Alstyne and local businesses
  • Assisted in funding for the Van Alstyne ISD to replace scoreboards at baseball and softball fields
  • Provided funding for three downtown murals
  • Funded interior and exterior museum building improvements in 2014-15

North Park:

  • Funded playground equipment and covered picnic area
  • Funded purchase and installation of new merry-go-round

Dorothy Fielder Park:

  • Funding of reconstruction of memory bricks’ walkway
  • Funding for gazebo renovations
  • Funding for LED lights to replace old lighting system
  • Funding for ground-level flag lights
  • Funding for new benches
  • Funding for landscape renovation

Forrest Moore Park:

  • VACDC paid off the property loan in a consortium with the City, Van Alstyne ISD, and the land owners’ donation. The entire project was $1,400,000.
  • Funded lighting for the walking trail and made the bridge wheelchair accessible
  • Funded rubber mulch for park playground
  • Funded resurfacing of the parking lot in 2015
  • Funded new park equipment and canopy
  • Funded repairs to the pedestrian walkway bridge

McKinney Wilson Park:

  • Funded new concession stand roof and façade
  • Funded improvements to picnic area and children’s playground 
  • Funding renovation of park bathrooms
  • Funded installation of scoreboard

GRANT PROJECTS: 

  • Development agreement with United Ag & Turf John Deere for construction on largest commercial/retail operation in city history
  • Funded interior renovations to bring Duchess Inn to Van Alstyne
  • Funding of grant facades for restaurants The Roost, Buck Snort BBQ, Asian Cuisine, El Patio
  • Funding to help Cooley Bay Winery improve the patron experience
  • Funded façade improvements and new electric doors at Van Alstyne Senior Center
  • Funded façade improvements at Van Alstyne Public Library
  • Funding of grant projects for retail and commercial businesses such as Texas Haircut Co. and Honeybean
  • Provided funding for restoration of historic City Hall for retail revitalization
